About a year ago I decided to start seriously dedicating time to painting again. After years of running a successful dance school and company, performing every weekend and generally running around like a crazy woman, I was finally ready to go back to my first love, painting.
As we approach our 40th birthday a lot of us go through a kind of "mid life crisis". The evaluation of what I have done so far, what have I achieved and is it how I expected? Have I contributed what I wanted? Have I had the meaningful impact that I had hoped? And of course the final question: what next? How do I go forward from here?
Just like many of you reading this, I always wanted to grow up to have a successful art career, but of course we all ask ourselves "how do we have a successful art career? What does that mean? What does it look like and feel like to have a successful art career?
I’ve learned so much in the last year as I have been working towards this goal, and I continue learning every day. In this blog I will be sharing with you what I’ve learned, and what I continue to learn on my journey in order to hopefully inspire other artists hoping to one day make art, and painting, their life. I will be answering the questions I've asked above, and also talking about techniques and materials that I have found that are helpful and amazing to better our craft, the mentors and the people who are influential and inspiring, the art market and how it has changed, defining what an “art business” looks like to me, and what it looks like to other successful artists and the many forms that could take. Finally I hope to positively influence the lives of those around me through the art that I'm creating, and through sharing this journey with you.
I will be offering other goodies and tutorials through my site, so join my mailing list, follow my blog, and become a member of my site to stay up to date with all the amazing things to come.
