The Cognitive Shadow Deck

About the Cognitive Shadow Deck

This body of work explores cognitive patterns through symbolism, image, and quiet ritual.

Each painting is paired with a card that offers a poetic reflection and an optional creative or contemplative prompt. These cards draw inspiration from common cognitive distortions, interpreted not as diagnoses or problems to solve, but as shared human patterns that shape perception, relationship, and self-understanding.

Rather than approaching these ideas analytically, the work engages them symbolically. Images, natural metaphors, and small gestures are used to invite reflection, presence, and meaning-making through art. The paintings stand on their own, while the accompanying texts offer one way of entering the image more slowly.

This project is not intended as therapy, instruction, or self-help. It is an artistic exploration of how inner narratives form, how perception shifts, and how attention can soften what feels rigid or unseen.

The cards and paintings together form a visual language for reflection, one that values ambiguity, restraint, and personal interpretation. Viewers are invited to sit with the work, return to it over time, and allow their own meanings to emerge.
